We are excited to announce the collaboration between Popwalk and Art in Odd Places, for their 2021 performance festival.
Art in Odd Places has a history of organizing performance festivals around the world. These festivals bring together artists and communities “to stretch the boundaries of communication in the public realm by presenting artworks in all disciplines outside the confines of traditional public space regulations” (AiOP mission statement). AiOP has organized festivals in the United States, Russia, and Australia.
This year’s festival will be curated by Furusho von Puttkammer and will be held in New York City, along 14th Street, between Avenue C and the Hudson River. The theme of this year’s festival, NORMAL, will “present artists from diverse backgrounds who seek to critique the mythos of the American Dream and the history of American politics”.
Popwalk will be onsite to help record the performances and archive them for presentation on the Popwalk app. By archiving them on Popwalk, we will allow these works to be presented in their original locations, retaining the site-specific intent of the artist. This record of these performances on Popwalk will also allow audiences not able to attend the festival to experience the works.
We hope that this collaboration will benefit the participating artists, allowing audiences to experience their work on-site, and AiOP in archiving their exemplary curatorial work.
